How Does Florida Determine Child Support?
Child Support is calculated in Florida based upon a specific formula. The formula, established in Florida Statute 61.30, establishes a child support calculation - known as a "guideline". This calculated guideline is considered "presumptively correct" and should be utilized by the Court. The Court may deviate five percent, up or down, from this guideline calculation without written findings in the Final Judgment. The Court may only deviate more than five percent with specific written findings and should only happen in limited, extraordinary circumstances.
